About New Haven Friends

At New Haven Friends Meeting, we gather in silence to listen and seek spiritual guidance. We have no clergy, rituals, or set prayers—instead, we worship together in quiet reflection. Anyone may feel moved to share a message that comes from deep reflection, or simply sit in contemplative silence. We believe there is “that of God” in every person and welcome all seekers, regardless of religious background, race, education, nationality, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or economic circumstance.

We find great joy in the diversity of beliefs of our members. Some center their faith on Jesus, while others draw inspiration from many religious traditions and sources of wisdom. We seek truth together with openness and humility, valuing our differences as we support each other's spiritual journeys. For over three centuries, Quakers have practiced this way of worship and community. We invite you to experience it for yourself.

What Do Quakers Do in Silent Worship?

What are Quakers doing when they sit in silence on Sunday morning? These 7 Friends share their answers.

Our Leadings

Quakers are guided by core values called testimonies, often remembered by the acronym SPICES: Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship. These principles shape how we live, worship, and engage with the world.

Simplicity

We focus on what truly matters, letting go of excess and distraction. Living simply frees us to deepen our spiritual lives and use only our fair share of the earth's resources

Peace

We seek nonviolent solutions to conflict and work toward justice and healing. Peace is not just the absence of war, but actively building relationships that address the root causes of violence.

Integrity

We strive to live authentically, speaking truth and aligning our actions with our beliefs. Integrity means doing what we say we will do and being accountable to our values.

Community

We support one another through all seasons of life, sharing joys and sorrows. Our spiritual journeys are strengthened when we walk them together, caring for each other along the way.

Equality

We believe every person is equally precious and deserving of respect. This calls us to challenge injustice and treat all people with fairness and dignity.

Stewardship

We care for the earth and all of creation as sacred gifts. Stewardship means responsibly tending to our environment and using resources with gratitude and restraint.
